Healing

My Pilgrimage With Tagore, India’s Revered Teacher

Years ago, Linda heard someone recite a poem that spoke directly to her soul. She had no idea who the author was, and when she learned the name of the man, she knew absolutely nothing about him, or even how to spell his name. The more she learned about Rabindranath Tagore and his massive output of writings in different genres, the more she wondered why, with her many years of formal education, she had never heard of him. He lived in India his entire life, from 1861 – 1941, an astonishing lifespan for that time. He also traveled all over the world, a feat almost unimaginable for anyone during his lifespan. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913, he was knighted, he started a small school which eventually became a major university, he was personally acquainted with political, artistic, spiritual, and literary figures from all over. When he died, his funeral in India attracted massive crowds. His longtime friends Gandhi and Nehru were among many who wrote beautiful, heartfelt tributes to this amazing man.

Tagore lived in a completely different culture from Linda, died before Linda was born, came from a different spiritual tradition, and yet she felt a kinship with this man. Despite suffering tremendous losses and griefs in his life, Tagore continued to inspire people all over the world with his spiritual insights and hope.

Linda’s book helps 21st century readers from all cultures and spiritual backgrounds gain fresh perspectives on their own challenges. Loss and grief are inescapable in life; we can learn and grow from those experiences, or we can become bitter. The healing and growth don’t occur just because time passes. We need to become more conscious of our responses. This book offers relevant and helpful approaches to healing that speak to people from all over the world.
